Theatreworks Has Faith In “Doubt”

RENO, Nev.- Director Evan Gadda, fresh from “Nuts”, returns to Theatreworks with “Doubt”-a parable by John Patrick Shanley.  “If wisdom's way you wisely seek, of these five things take care, of whom you speak, to whom you speak, and what and why and where,” quotes Gadda, who shares the poem as an allusion to the message of “Doubt”.

This award-winning play develops around the lives of the four main characters: Sister Aloysius (played by Nikki Ernst), Father Flynn (played by Zach Bortot), Sister James (played by Amanda Alvey), and Mrs. Muller, the helpless victim of Aloysius’ deceit, (played by Renee Thomson).   The conflict arises when Sister Aloysius suspects Father Flynn of engaging in an intimate relationship with one of the school’s students. However, as one digs beneath the surface of the play, one will find intricate existential motifs laced throughout the plot. “This play deals with some stirring questions like, do we really know what we see or do we see what we want to see? Can prejudice influence our decision, and can one mistaken word influence somebody for the rest of our lives?” explains Gadda.

This multi-layered theater work debuts on the stage at Studio on 4th, 432 E. Fourth St., August 21st, 22nd, 28th, and 29th at 8pm, in addition to the two matinee showings on August 23rd and 30th at 2pm.
