TheatreWorks of Northern Nevada Presents Jeffrey Hatcher’s

KORCZAK’S CHILDREN

TheatreWorks kicks off their 2009 theatre season with this powerful play set in an orphanage in the Jewish ghetto during the Nazi occupation of Poland. Dr. Janusz Korczak –writer, educator, physician, and passionate advocate for children’s rights tries to keep   the children of his orphanage alive and hopeful despite the horrible conditions of the ghetto.  Tales of deportations to concentration camps are spreading and Korczak knows time may be running out. Against the rules of the ghetto, he permits his orphans to stage a magical play entitled The Post Office-to teach them about the difficult subject of death. As the play is rehearsed, the rumors of deportations become a reality.

Korczak’s Children is a drama for young audiences ages 9- adult. While the story is tragic, it is also a testament to goodness, decency, and the fierce determination of Korczak and his children.

Korczak’s Children was originally developed at the Children’s Theatre Company with support from the NEA/TCG Theatre Residency Program for Playwrights.

Auditions for Korczak’s Children are Wednesday January 28th at 6 pm. for  adults, Thursday January 29th at 6 pm. for teens,  and Saturday January 31st at 11 am. for children 5-12.
